Lontano - Voltz Clarke Gallery, NYC - November 2018

Solo exhibition of Paintings on linen, jute and canvas created in Italy at Palazzo Monti in Brescia, Italy,

Voltz Clarke Gallery presents, Lontano, featuring new paintings by Heather Chontos opening Saturday, February 16th. Chontos’ collection of paintings consists of mixed media works on canvas created during her Artist-in-Residency at Palazzo Monti in Brescia, Italy. As a painter, Chontos focuses her studio practice on the ambiguity and unique beauty of Abstract Expressionism. She creates artwork that explores compositions of invisible light, like a secret language only spoken through her various mediums, palettes and forms. Focusing on gestures and connecting color through relentless movement, Chontos’ resulting forms are interpretations of her surrounding environment, delicate details, vulnerable landscapes and moments of light. Through these works she inspires an intimate dialogue with the viewer and her emotional connection to impulsive mark making. She is driven by an intuition that guides each gesture and builds the complex
movement between the many layers on her canvas.
